have 2 years in which to pass the test.

Yes, however it is advisable to wait and gain more confidence in the car
or alternatively have a go at Pass Plus.

Yes, you can wear sunglasses on test. They are particularly helpful in low sun during the winter months.

Can you move the door mirrors down to help you see the kerbs/lines when reversing on test?
Yes. You can either adjust it down using the electric switches on your car, or ask the examiner to move it down for you if you mirrors need manually adjusting. Don't forget to put it back up once you have finished!

Can you get the examiner to wipe the mirror in the rain, if you can't see properly when complete a reversing exercise on test?
Yes, you don't have to complete a reverse exercise if you can't see out of your mirrors because it's raining. Just pass the examiner a cloth and ask them politely to wipe the mirror. If it helps, put the window down too.

Can I listen to music on test?
Yes – you can. Put the radio or CD on in a reasonably low volume. It helps break the awkward driving test silence!

Do examiners have a 'quota'? (i.e. they have to pass and fail a certain number of students?')
No, they do not. To pay £62 for pre-determined fail would be illegal under trading-standards laws - you pay for a fair test. If you drive well you will pass, if you don't, you won't.

I failed my test and I am not happy. Can I appeal a driving test decision?
No, you can't appeal the decision of a test, a fail will always stand. However, you can appeal the conduct of a test and if the complaint is upheld, you will receive a free re-test. If you think your test has not been conducted correctly, speak to your instructor and they can advise you.

My test was cancelled at short notice. Is there anything I can do?
Yes. If you were given less than three working days notice that your test was cancelled, you will be entitled to receive compensation. If this has happened to you, speak to your instructor and they will guide you through a compensation claim.

My test was cancelled due to bad weather. Is there anything I can do?
No. If the DVSA deem that it is not safe to conduct a driving test due to poor weather conditions, then it will be re-scheduled. You are not eligible for compensation, however, you will not have to pay again.

My instructor talks and texts during my lessons. Is this okay?
Absolutely not! The same mobile phone laws apply to instructors whilst they are teaching, as apply to drivers when they are driving – it is illegal! Hands-free kits are legal for instructors but are you happy that you are paying your instructor to talk on their phone whilst you are driving?

My instructor runs personal errands and smokes cigarettes during my lessons? Is this okay?
No – it really is not acceptable and is very unprofessional. If you are paying for a driving lesson, then you are entitled to an uninterrupted hour of driving tuition. Any smoking in tuition cars is illegal (even if it is the instructor's own car) and instructors stopping for cigarette breaks is not good practice. Our advice, find a different instructor!

Do you do 'intensive' courses?
No. The success rate for intensive courses is incredibly low, we believe that there is no 'quick-fix' solution to driving. No-one can concentrate fully for 8 hours a day over 5 days. If you need to pass quickly then a semi-intensive course could be an option, 4-6 hours a week over a few weeks is much more effective. Speak to your instructor for options.
